Youths flee crash scene after police pursuit

Three young people have been arrested after the vehicle they were in crashed during a police pursuit in Christchurch this morning.

Police spotted the suspected stolen vehicle at the Avondale intersection of Wainoni and Breezes Rds about 2.20am on Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman said the pursuit only lasted a “few seconds”, as the driver crashed and the occupants ditched the car and fled the scene.

Three people were seen running away from the crash scene on Wainoni Rd but police tracked them to a nearby location and took them into custody.

“They were subsequently located and arrested, and will be referred to Youth Aid,” the spokeswoman said.

No one was injured in the crash.
