The name of a Dunedin stream appears to have vanished, along with the creek itself.

The missing waterway apparently provided water for William Strachan’s Victoria Brewery, on the corner of Pitt St and Elder St.

The brewery, which was advertised as "opposite Knox’s [sic] Church", opened in 1857 and in 1923 was taken over by NZ Breweries.

Checks at the Dunedin City Library and Toitu Otago Settler's Museum have so far failed to find maps or written records of the stream’s name.

There is interest by Knox Church in learning the original Maori name, as it is hoped to be able to use it in some way in a church building or feature.
