A Dunedin mother and son have been building a world of creativity, one Lego brick at a time.

Henny and Pieter Dennison have been building blocks together since Pieter was 4 years old.

Their shared love for Lego put them in the spotlight earlier this year as they teamed up for the second series of Lego Masters NZ.

Flying to Auckland to record the show was exciting, they said.

Mrs Dennison was nervous to take part and was worried about being too old.

But meeting the other contestants was a good experience

"It was fantastic, actually, everyone got on really well."

Mr Dennison said all the contestants were supportive and encouraged each other to keep going during the timed builds.

Recording the show took place at the start of last year, and Covid-19 made it a challenge.

They both came down with it during the shoot, which meant some rescheduling of recordings and missing some of the builds.

The build challenges, including the time limit, were "quite intense", he said.

They did not have any idea of what they would be asked to build beforehand, and it was a matter of having to use their imagination to create something that fitted the theme of each challenge.

After recording, there was almost a year of keeping quiet before the episodes were broadcast at the beginning of this year.

"Season one and season two were pretty much filmed back to back," Mr Dennison said.

Although they were eliminated before the end of the season, both were happy to have taken part.

The pair will be at the Dunedin Brick Show this weekend.

Mr Dennison will be showcasing a native bird-themed build.

He was also working on a build of the First Church of Otago, which he was considering bringing along as a work in progress.
