Engines will be running and the foghorn will sound in Outram this weekend.

The Otago Vintage Machinery Club, located in George King Memorial Dr, will open its shed doors to the public for its open day on Sunday.

Club member Ray Elfield said members were particularly looking forward to the event, as last year’s open day was cancelled at the last minute due to Covid-19 restrictions.

On display will be plenty of engines, machinery, tools, and a foghorn which would sound during the day.

One of the club’s newest pieces of machinery was a Chrysler marine engine, recently donated to the club.

There were few very of those around, Mr Elfield said.

Other new additions were a Mogul engine and a lawn mower from the early 1960s which was used on a bowling green.

People tended to ring the club if they had an item they wanted to give and club members would usually arrange for it to be collected, Mr Elfield said.

The open days usually attracted about 200-300 people, including new faces and some regulars.

Quite often, visitors would come back in the following weeks.

Sometimes they would even bring along old machinery.

‘‘We try to get most of them going and find out if they have a problem that’s going to cost money to fix,’’ Mr Elfield said.

The open day will run from 10am until 4pm.
