Darryl and Catherine married on the farm in Waimate in what was a very special family occasion. They share their day with the ODT.

When and where did you meet: We met in 2008 at the Forks Hotel, Waimate. I cook at the hotel and I wanted some rhubarb from the place where Darryl was living, which was also my next-door neighbour (girl next door).

The proposal: Spur of the moment at home one night.

Where was the wedding: The wedding was at the mother of the bride's farm, at Waimate out at Waihao Forks. Darryl built a pergola for us to get married in.

Why did you choose the venue: We chose the venue because it had sentimental value. My dad bought the farm in 1994 but three months after we arrived he passed away. Mum, my older brother and my twin brother all worked really hard to keep hold of it for Dad and they really love it. In 2008 my twin brother died in an accident and he really loved the farm. So that's why it meant so much to us tohave the wedding there. We had Centre Woods Marquee for the reception.

The dress: I went into Amanda's Bridal Services in Waimate and saw adress on the shelf that I really loved. It had a burgundy sash. And I always wanted burgundy bridesmaids' dresses. So I thought it was perfect. But I went to Dunedin to have a look down there. Tried on six dresses but nothing appealed like that one, so I went back to Amanda's and got the original one I liked.

The bridesmaids' dresses: The dresses were burgundy, the same colour asmy sash. They were knee-length and halter neck.

The flowers: The flowers were amazing. Helen Rose from Waimate did them. I love gerberas so we worked around them. We also used a rose called Coffee Break that was the main flower for the men. We had two windows in the pergola where we got married, so we hung two white lanterns full of flowers. I had a cascading flower arrangement. The bridesmaids had flower posies. We had flowers on the cake, and in the centre of each table. We also had two arrangements of flowers on wrought-iron stands on each end of the head table.

The caterers: We had Cafe on Queen from Waimate doing the catering. We had a buffet hot glazed ham and roast lamb from the farm. They did a fantastic job.

Highlight of the day: The whole day was a highlight, but marrying my husband was it. We got photos with my brother's tractor. The MC was fantastic and brought somuch laughter and fun moments back.

Photographer: We used Tracey Foley Photography from Waimate. She did a great job and was a pleasure to work with.
