The Lower Hutt community is rallying around a refugee after vandals nearly destroyed his fledgling garden nursery business.
Most of Khaled Al Jouja's plants were ruined when vandals smashed the greenhouse at his home this week.
The Common Unity Project Aotearoa is a charity that supports and partners with locally owned enterprises in the Hutt Valley.
It posted a message about the vandalism on its Facebook page, describing Khaled as a man who feeds many, many meals to local children from the work he does growing food.
It said he had only just started his new bedding plant business at his home.
The charity said it was overwhelmed by all the kindhearted and generous responses it had received to Khaled's story.
It has organised a working bee this Saturday to help him re-pot the plants that have survived.
"Come give us a hand to get Khaled growing again. Bring some pots, some seeds, some potting mix or some cuttings and muck in with us. Come say hi to him and his family.
"Khaled's friends who support his employment, Almighty juice and Tommy Millions, will be there firing up the pizza oven and sharing the love."
