The answer is GoSnow, which has been founded by Australian snowboarder and entrepreneur Sean Bellerby, who now lives in Queenstown.
Mr Bellerby said his mobile app, which connected skiers and snowboarders in the same area, or who were planning a trip to a similar destination, was a world first.
Originally from Sydney, Mr Bellerby spent nearly 12 years in the high tech software business working for US software companies in Europe and Sydney.
He always had a passion for skiing and snowboarding and spent winters in ski resorts such as Aspen, Colorado.
He decided to follow that passion and started working on the GoSnow project in October last year, having realised that people often did not take ski trips because friends or relations could not go, for various reasons.
GoSnow removed those barriers, opening up a network of passionate skiers and snowboarders and creating opportunities to both ski and snowboard and socialise more.
By doing that, it was also increasing participation in snow sports, he said.
Fuelled by the new liquidity of social connection, consumers were embracing innovative new ways to connect with other like minded peers, he said.
There was a good initial uptake of the app and that was growing daily, with excellent feedback from those using it. He had also been approached by several interested investors.
''It's been really quite exciting and pleasing for me particularly to see that social validation of building something that is fit for purpose,'' he said.
As well as working as a snowboard instructor at Coronet Peak, Mr Bellerby was busy forming a company and looking to do that with some of the people he had already connected with in Queenstown.
He hoped to find someone to join him as co founder and run the marketing side of the business.
His technology background had been very useful when it came to building the business, along with having an MBA.
It was estimated there were 110 million skiers and snowboarders worldwide and the potential, in terms of gaining a large proportion of that market, was ''definitely out there'', he said.
