The Dunedin City Council will continue to examine measures to stop people speeding in Musselburgh, after a car ploughed through a woman’s fence and landed on her ute earlier this week.

It was the second time in 18 months that a car had crashed into Lisa Lindon’s Royal Cres, Musselburgh, property.

A similar incident happened in December 2019, when a car also crashed through her fence.

Other people nearby had also received unexpected visitors smashing through their properties.

She wanted the council to see if road improvements could be made, before someone was killed.

Council transport group manager Jeanine Benson said in a statement that three crashes had been reported in that section of Musselburgh Rise in the past 10 years, and all were caused by vehicles travelling too fast for the conditions.

"We have installed a guard rail around the curve on Musselburgh Rise, however, this stops before the property in question."

When asked if the guard rail would be extended to Miss Lindon’s property, she said the council would "continue to look at speed interventions that may be able to be used in this area".

"We have installed a guard rail around the curve on Musselburgh Rise, however, this stops before the property in question." well extend it.....simples.

The Armco metal barrier needs extended in both directions, both up and down. Two driveways, sadly including mine, are right on the apex of the curve, so our vehicles remain vulnerable no matter what, but at least a more substantial barrier either side of our access would hopefully send a message to drivers.

Plus, yes, put in speed bumps can help, they've just redone the road surface making it even ore like a race track!

Will DCC also stop speeding on footpaths?

If cars go onto footpaths, prosecute the drivers.

Dunedin drivers would have to be the most underskilled, selfish, overly distracted ever to get behind the wheel of a weapon. My daily commute offers a panorama of calamity at every intersection. It's like a muppet show, dicing with injury and death, and it's getting worse. Put some police on motorcycles.

A wooden barrier outside my home was also demolished in a low speed roll down from further up the Rise on the same bend, not many days earlier. No action from the Council, in spite of calling it through to Police and Council.
