A dancework is leading an artwork in Dunedin this week.

"Work in Progress" is being constructed at Mint Gallery by artist Anneloes Douglas over festival week.

The 3.6m by 1.2m triptych features figures dancing across a forest backdrop.

"I'm taking bits of the dancers performing and putting them in the painting. It's lovely to have dancers to work from," she said yesterday.

Douglas will be working on the piece from 10am until 5.30pm daily until Saturday, when it will be auctioned at midday, at Mint.

"I'm doing the painting as one work, but we want to have the option of selling them as separate pieces. So they need to stand on their own, as well as work together."

All proceeds from the auction are going to the Dunedin School of Art Foundation.
