The People's Choice award at the Edinburgh Realty Premier Art Awards has again gone to landscape artist Murray Ayson, with his oil painting The Arthur River - Milford Track.

The painting, which shows the western side of the McKinnon Pass on the Milford Track, from the Arthur River, was chosen by those who attended the Otago Art Society exhibition at the Station Gallery.

Mr McKinnon said the painting showed the scene as a visitor to the area would find it, minus a swing bridge, which would have looked out of place in the centre of the view.

"I go to all these scenes I want to paint and photograph them," the retired farmer and Mosgiel resident said.

He then allows himself a little artistic licence, enough to subtly change the scene, which helps to foil forgers, a problem he has had in the past.

The painting is now hanging at The Artist's Room, in Dowling St.
