The Riddet Institute, an association of several New Zealand universities and research institutions, has motivated more than 40 prominent scientists to encapsulate their fields of endeavour in a style addressed to the informed and curious reader.
Personalities feature prominently in this volume. It is interesting to follow the steady advances and moments of inspiration in the development of tender meat, better milk powders, spectacularly improved kiwifruit, the protection of milk from spoiling, spreadable butter and the most efficient rotation of pasture, to mention but a very few.
There's something for everyone and the articles are far more fascinating than the slightly esoteric title (subtitled Celebrating New Zealand's Agrifood Innovation) might lead one to expect.
