CD review: Millencolin

With a name derived from a skateboard trick, veteran Swedish punk rockers Millencolin haven't started writing tunes for the Zimmer-frame just yet.

In fact, True Brew could just as easily have been conceived in 1994 when the band released their first album.

Brimming with up-tempo tunes built on a base of hurtling drums, crudely raked guitars and the obligatory vocal sneer, True Brew musically apes their back catalogue while updating their lyrical content to reflect contemporary socio-political issues.

True Brew is perfunctory skate punk in the best possible sense: nothing remotely revelatory but enough angst to spin the ball bearings.

 Millencolin. True Brew. Epitaph.

Three and a half stars (out of five)
