CD Review: Tiki Taane

Tiki Taane
With Strings Attached: Alive & Orchestrated

3.5/5 stars

Working with members of the NZSO, both in preparation and during the actual performance, Kiwi songwriter Tiki Taane might not have quite reinvented his tunes, but the addition of massed strings, at least three other vocalists (Ria Hall, MC Tali and Taane's dad, Uekaha Taane Tinorau) and an oh-so-tight band featuring members of Shapeshifter, among others, has certainly resulted in a set that is both powerful and multilayered.

Yet, despite all the pizzicato trimmings, songs such as Always On My Mind and Love Your Ways remain hummably simple. And that's a good thing.
