CD reviews: Mura Masa

The debut LP from 21-year-old producer Alex Crossan sparkles with the vibrancy of adopted city of  London, bringing the city’s glorious multicultural mix to bear through his expertly crafted brand of hazy, pitched-down EDM.

Incorporating drum ’n’ bass, dubstep, R&B, dancehall and other speaker-busting styles with effective pop appeal (the guest list includes A$AP Rocky, Charli XCX , and fellow border-buster Damon Albarn), the release revels in hypnotic refrains, jostling synth lines and a raft of samples, as Charli XCX’s trilling adds pop bounce to the ruminative 1 Night while East London R&B singer Nao shines on Firefly’s nubile groove.
