Music review: Hopetoun Brown

Hopetoun Brown. Don't Let Them Lock you Up. DRM. ★★★★.

Supergroove's former horn section, Tim Stewart and Nick Atkinson, delivered an awesome Hopetoun Brown set at Womad this year, coinciding with the release of their new album.

The sounds are a little more diverse than on previous tracks Burning Fuse and Looks So Good.

Sure they demonstrate their horn skills with tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone sax and the ubiquitous bass clarinet, but they've also hauled in some part-time talent.

The end result is a more beats-based sound. For example, the title track features Sophie Burbery, Nomad and Oliver Harding chipping in on backing vocals, elsewhere Callum Passells guests on alto sax, Isaac Chatterton on percussion, and Finn Scholes on a mean trumpet.

It's a hybrid. Grab a copy.
