Music review: Screaming Females

The seventh LP for the New Jersey trio is a thrilling, energetic set: sequenced like a DIY basement gig and mixed to sound like you're crushed up against the speakers.

Frontwoman-guitarist Marissa Paternoster croons and shreds her way magnificently through a superb collection ranging from quiet little gems such as the lilting Dirt, to the extended garage-punk stylings of album centrepiece Chamber For Sleep (Pt. I), while irresistible single I'll Make You Sorry plays like a lost power pop classic.

Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty also stops by for a guest appearance on Soft Domination, an almighty stomper that belies its title.

  • Screaming Females. All At Once. Don Giovanni.
