Former Dunedin band Six60 returns to town on its first nationwide tour.

Synth and samples technician Marlon Gerbes says the band has been planning this for a while.

"Seeing as this is our first nationwide tour, we have been preparing quite a bit including writing new material, working on a brand new set list and, because all of these are `firsts', we are a bit nervous but at the same time really excited.

This is also the lead-in to the album, which we're writing at the moment."

The band worked recently with producer Chris Gehringer.

"We heard good things about Chris while we were researching mastering, and thought he'd be a great fit for the song.

Reputation-wise he means a lot, as he's worked with some great artists."

The band has been described as "under the radar" in the music industry, which seems set to change.

"By under the radar we mean we haven't had any mainstream exposure as yet.

We haven't really needed it.

We've been doing quite well with the support from our fans, which we value a lot.

We're not concerned whether or not this tour puts us on the map; it's more of a sign-off for the EP and a prelude to the album next year."

He says Dunedin and Queenstown punters can expect a dedicated performance from the band.

"[Expect]A bunch of guys trying really hard to make everyone as excited as we are to be playing."

Following the band's debut New Zealand tour, trips further afield are planned - Australia in late October.

Gerbes says the members are looking forward to their return to Dunedin.

"Yeah, the band was actually formed in Dunedin, and spent the majority of last year playing there.

"We're looking forward to the Union Hall gig and will be going out on a limb to make the show extra special."
