Trident Homes: Delivering quality and confidence in Otago

Trident Homes Dunedin is part of a recognised national brand that is committed to delivering high quality homes.

Building a home is one of the biggest financial and emotional investments most New Zealanders will ever make.

With rising costs and increasingly complex regulations, choosing the right builder has never been more important. That’s where Trident Homes Dunedin stands out, combining national support with hands-on local experience and strong relationships.

As part of the wider Trident Homes network, the business benefits from established systems and proven processes, while maintaining a strong local focus.

Behind the brand locally are people with real, hands-on building experience. Franchisee Brett Johnston grew up around building sites, learning the trade from an early age through his father, a qualified builder.

He began his apprenticeship in 2006 and started his own building business in 2013, gaining experience across a wide range of residential projects. That background, combined with the support of Trident Homes, formed the foundation of the business when Brett and his wife Anna took over the Dunedin franchise in 2021.

The team specialises in designing and building new homes, guiding clients from early concepts through to completion. Their approach is structured but flexible, supporting clients through design, pricing, consenting, and construction, with a clear focus on transparency throughout.

Behind the scenes is a team of six, including two sales consultants, a quantity surveyor, a project manager, and the two franchise owners. Brett and Anna remain closely involved in both strategic decisions and day-to-day operations, ensuring that every project meets their standards.

Being part of a national group also provides access to established supplier relationships, allowing the team to source reliable, proven products at competitive pricing

Trident Homes Dunedin’s capability is reflected in both private residential builds and larger-scale developments. A standout example is the Kāinga Ora development in Port Chalmers (2023–2025), where the team delivered quality housing at scale while meeting strict compliance requirements and timeframes. This project demonstrated their ability to manage complexity without compromising standards.

At the core of the business are values of transparency, quality, and reliability, supported by strong relationships with local trades.

Looking ahead, Trident Homes Dunedin plans to continue growing its residential pipeline while maintaining its focus on quality and service. A future show home at the proposed Longfield subdivision in Mosgiel is also planned, along with new house-and-land packages as sections become available.

For those considering building, the team’s advice is simple: start with clear priorities, including your budget. Getting plans right early, and making decisions upfront, helps avoid costly changes and delays during construction. Just as importantly, choose a builder you trust.

In a challenging market, Trident Homes Dunedin stands out by delivering homes that are well built, well managed, and completed with confidence from start to finish.
