Dunstan Hospital management is remaining tight-lipped about the whereabouts of three patients confirmed to have Covid-19 in Central Otago.

Information about the locations of Covid-19 patients is released by the Ministry of Health and Southern District Health Board in their daily updates.

Central Otago Health Services chief executive Kathryn de Luc yesterday referred the Otago Daily Times back to both agencies.

On Wednesday, Central Otago District Mayor Tim Cadogan pre-empted the ministry and the health board by announcing the three cases, one each in Roxburgh, Alexandra, and Cromwell, in a statement and said he wanted to let the community know as soon as possible.

His statement was followed by one from Central Otago Health Services.

Ms de Luc said yesterday Dunstan Hospital had a process in place to manage individual patients.

"We also have a well-developed surge plan to deal with an increase in patients admitted if this situation were to arise.

"This involves well-developed linkages with local primary care and the base hospital at Dunedin."

She said none of the measures were to underestimate the challenge of the situation and urged members of the community to adhere to Level 4 measures.

"Please help us to help you by staying at home."
