Taieri College Open Day

Principal’s Welcome
It is my pleasure to invite current and prospective families to our 2019 Taieri College Open Day. Explore our recently transformed and modern campus, and enjoy meeting our team of enthusiastic and passionate teachers. These are very exciting times for Taieri College as we enjoy making the most of our recent capital developments including our new modern Performing Arts Centre.
We are a proud co-educational school and look forward to sharing with our community the positive and progressive culture that is Taieri College.
Being part of a distinct and unique community is very important to us. We are proudly Taieri and believe our close connection to our community is a vital factor in fostering pride and belonging amongst our students.
Developing the whole individual is a big part of our strategic plan. We embrace holistic education, promoting our students into experiencing a wide range of subjects and activities. Taieri College is a springboard for life-long learning. We assist young people in building a broad platform, which allows them to excel with confidence as they transition into young adults.
I extend a warm invitation to all prospective families and look forward to you being part of our vibrant community college.

Open Day Information:

Our Open Day is being held on Sunday 28 July 2019. Families are welcome in our new Performing Arts Centre. Principal's address at 1.00pm for prospective Year 7 and 8 students and 2.00pm for prospective Year 9 students and above.

Performing Arts
It was exciting to begin 2019 with the use of our new Performing Arts Centre (PAC). As well as a comfortable assembly venue, the PAC is being used extensively as a theatre for our musicians and dramatists. It contains the very latest in sound and lighting technology.

Our musicians and thespians have proven themselves to be up with the very best in New Zealand. Our consistent high achievement in Rockquest is a clear example of that. For the second year in a row, Taieri College won the best band award at the regional finals.

Academic
Our community is very proud of Taieri College’s high levels of NCEA achievement. In 2018 Taieri College was 8% above national average at Level 1, and 11% above national average at Levels 2 and 3. One hundred and thirty one individual students also obtained their NCEA qualification with a Merit or Excellence endorsement. These results indicate a healthy and positive attitude to learning and attainment.
I encourage all prospective parents to consider the extensive range of subject options we have at Taieri College. Junior students experience a variety of stimulating modules, with the intention being to kindle a personal interest, which they then get to explore in greater detail as they progress through the college. As they enter the senior school, they specialise into individual subject choices that provide clear pathways into further tertiary study or vocational training.
We firmly believe in providing the best possible opportunities based on the needs of each individual student. It is important that they follow a path that is appropriate to them. We have a saying at Taieri College that we don’t open doors for students, we provide the tools for them, so they can open them themselves.

Sport

Taieri College has a proud and rich sporting history. When given the opportunity our students represent themselves, the college and our community with great pride. We embrace competition and understand the positive benefits that being part of a team brings to all aspects of our lives.
We are incredibly fortunate to have an amazing array of sporting and recreational facilities, including a heated 25m indoor pool, two indoor gymnasiums, floodlit all-weather turf and three hectares of grass fields.
Achieving at sport is personal to every individual. Sport at Taieri College is about recognising the needs of all students. We share in the goals of every student from those who relish donning our school colours to have fun with their friends, to those who seek and have achieved representative or national honours.
