A former world champion kickboxer engaged in "Dukes of Hazzard stuff" during high speed police pursuits on Melbourne roads, his barrister has told a court.
Gurkan Ozkan, 42, reached speeds of up to 180kmh during three police pursuits on suburban roads in Melbourne's east last year and early this year.
During one of the chases he rammed a car that was in his way, the Victorian County Court heard on Tuesday.
At one point he reached 180kmh, which was 110kmh over the speed limit.
Ozkan pleaded guilty today to charges including two counts of reckless conduct endangering life and one count of driving in a manner dangerous.
His barrister Mark Gumbleton conceded the driving was frightening and said it was only a matter of luck that nobody was killed.
"Really it is 'Dukes of Hazzard' stuff on our roads in Melbourne," he said.
"It is so incredible it almost belongs in a television show."
Judge Duncan Allen said it was a very serious example of the offence.
Mr Gumbleton said the driving occurred when his client, a former world champion kickboxer who competed around the world, was at the lowest ebb in his life.
Ozkan, formerly of Wantirna South in Melbourne's east, was remanded in custody to be sentenced on Monday.
The Dukes of Hazzard was an American television series of the early 1980s where the characters were regularly being chased by police and driving at fast speeds.
