1252 new Covid cases and 1 death in South

There are 1252 new cases  and 1 death due to Covid-19 reported in the South over the past week.

Nationally, there were 11,544 new cases of the virus and 12 deaths, the Ministry of Health said. 

Of the new cases, 4717 were reinfections.

Of the 22 deaths reported today, there was one each from the Southern, South Canterbury, Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay and Wellington areas, six from the Auckland region, five from Canterbury and two each from Lakes and MidCentral areas. 

Two people were aged in their 30s, two in their 50s, two in their 60s, five in their 70s, eight in their 80s and three were aged over 90.

Of these people, seven were women and 15 were men.

There were also 190 people with Covid in hospital as of midnight on Sunday, with five cases in intensive care or a high-dependency unit. 

The seven-day rolling average of cases is now 1644.

Figures reported last week showed there had been 11,453 new cases, with six deaths and 177 people hospitalised.
