The annual Great USA Day car show in South Dunedin was deemed a "roaring success" by attendees.

Stateside Streeters president Stu Mowat said more than 200 cars of United States origin had taken part in the 32nd edition of the event, which began with a car cruise on Friday night before a display day at Hancock Park on Saturday.

The cars included Fords, Chevrolets, Dodges and Plymouths, mainly from the 1930s to the 1960s as well as later models, which had come from around the South Island, he said.

Car enthusiasts and members of the public alike enjoyed the event.

"It’s always a successful day. People love nice cars."

The turnout was helped by fine weather, he said.

Car enthusiast Graeme Haldane, of Dunedin, said he attended the event every year.

"It never gets old. You see new and interesting cars every time.

"It’s always a roaring success."
