AOS callout in Forbury

Police and the armed offenders squad responded to reports of a person with a firearm in South Dunedin this evening.

A police spokesperson said they received a report shortly after 5pm "of a person with what they said appeared to be a firearm on a private property in Forbury".

Police were in attendance and the AOS had been called as a precaution.

Cordons were in place.

In an update this evening police said they had cleared the address and nothing of interest had been found.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
