Armed police have taken a man into custody at Dunedin's Phillip Laing House.

Police and a dog unit entered the Rattray St building about 11.20am.

The middle-aged man did not struggle as police led him to a patrol car.

A police spokesman confirmed a man was arrested in relation to the incident.

The man was reported by a member of the public to be "acting suspiciously", he said.

The spokesman was unable to confirm whether the man was armed.

No further information was available at this time, he said.
