University of Otago student and keen artist Tara Millar (29) holds her painting of her brother riding in the Chatham Islands, which is among works by students being auctioned for charity tomorrow.

Mrs Millar (nee King), a third-year medical student, organised the auction, which will include seven of her works and pieces from seven other medical students.

The auction was about putting medical students' artistic talents to good use, she said.

She had been a keen artist for a long time, but in between juggling her studies and raising three young daughters (a fourth child is on the way) did not have much time to get out the paint brush.

Auction proceeds will be split between three charities, the Dunedin Night Shelter Trust, KidsCan and the Hamlin Charitable Fistula Hospitals Trust.

Originally from the Chatham Islands, Mrs Millar had used her connections to get return air fares to the Chatham Islands for the favourite artist on the night.

The auction will be held at the Hunter Centre, in Great King St, with doors opening at 6.50pm.
