School executive officer Clare Ridout said Ms Du Plessis had spent two hours at the Saturday 2pm workshop, on her birthday.
Her efforts to come to the school on her birthday were much appreciated and this had proved a special day for eight cello-playing pupils from the school, and about six other cello players, comprising pupils from other schools, and an adult player.
This had been a "very positive event" and offered a "very special opportunity" for pupils to learn more about playing cello.
Ms Du Plessis had also visited the Fern Rd school about five years ago.
The school’s own cello teacher, Jocelyn Broughton, had baked a cello-shaped cake to celebrate the birthday and the workshop, she said.
