`Bus buddies' to help with route changes

A Dunedin bus users support group, Bus Go, is pressing ahead with plans to provide "bus buddies'' to help city bus users adapt to changes to public bus routes later this month.

A dozen support group members and members of the public attended a meeting at the Dunedin City Library this week, to discuss the bus buddies move and changes to bus routes and the zone system.

Group co-president Alex King said "everyone seems to be in favour'' of the bus buddies initiative and he was encouraged by support at the meeting.

The group was likely to provide about half a dozen volunteers at central city bus stops on August 15, the first day of the new bus route system, when most buses will switch to simplified, more direct routes.

The volunteers would explain the changes and answer any queries.

Bus zones will shrink from seven to five, and there will be fare savings for many passengers taking long trips using a Go Card.

Passengers switching from one bus to another in the same zone, and within half an hour, can switch free.
