Hawaiian students hosted by polytech

Ten representatives of the Kaua'i Community College, on the Hawaiian island of Kaua'i, and members of the island's business community last week continued an "extremely positive" visit to Otago Polytechnic and the wider Dunedin area.

Polytechnic director global engagement Marc Doesburg said the Hawaiian group visited the Karitane marae and was particularly interested in indigenous tourism activities linked to the marae.

The group also visited the Orokonui Ecosanctuary.

Mr Doesburg said the Hawaiian community college and the polytechnic had previously developed a memorandum of understanding, allowing for shared academic staff activities, and for students from the college to study at the polytechnic.

A college delegation first visited the polytechnic and Dunedin last year, and the latest five-day visit continued until Saturday, he said.
