A car ended up in a "precarious position" after it went off the road and crashed into a house in Dunedin this evening.

A police spokeswoman said the vehicle went through a fence and hit the house, on the corner of Regent Rd and Queen St.

The driver of the vehicle was able to get out and was deemed "OK", the spokeswoman said.

"The car was in a precarious position for a little while. There was some concern it might have landed in an unstable position.''

The spokeswoman said it was unclear what caused the vehicle to go off the road.
