Car goes up in flames in Maryhill

A crew was called to a car on fire in the Dunedin suburb of Maryhill yesterday evening.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Daryl Ball said a crew from Lookout Point station arrived to find the car fire ‘‘well involved’’ about 6.30pm in Elgin Rd near Crewe St.

The car was badly damaged, he said.

While Fenz had initially notified police the fire was suspicious, a police spokeswoman said later the owner of the vehicle had been located and police had not attended the incident.

She was unable to confirm last night if police would be investigating further.
