The Otago Tramping and Mountaineering Club (OTMC) visited the club’s former Green Hut site and Pulpit Rock in the Silver Peaks Scenic Reserve yesterday.
The hike marked 100 years since the club’s first trip up the Silver Peaks on Labour Day in 1923, the year the club was formed.
Club president Antony Pettinger said the trip was the "perfect ending" to their celebrations.
"A day like this is quite special at the Silver Peaks, it’s not common.
"It was just wonderful."
OTMC was one of New Zealand’s oldest outdoor clubs and had made more than 1000 trips up the Silver Peaks.
Mr Pettinger said one member, who made the journey all the way to the top of Pulpit Rock yesterday, had done the same trip with the club back in 1960.
"It was quite a proud moment to see him get back there 63 years later, at quite a fair age, and he really enjoyed it. The smile on his face said it all," he said.
More than 60 people went up the track yesterday, the same number of people as on the club’s first trip back in 1923.
"I think we made our foundation members quite proud today".
