Blogsite Kiwiblog has taken down a thread on Clayton Weatherston and says it will no longer post comments during trials.
Reports that the Solicitor-general's office was considering whether comments on Kiwiblog breached contempt of court laws prompted Kiwiblog creator David Farrar yesterdayto hide all Weatherston-related comments posted on his site.
"I don't wish to end up in judicial trouble.
"I regret if there were any comments that went too far."
As the administrator of the blog he did not consider himself a journalist or part of the media.
He had been unaware of the limits of acceptable discussion on criminal issues, he said.
A Facebook site also under investigation had yesterday altered its title to reflect that it was an opinion-based group.
Some of the group's 644 members continued to post comments about murder-accused Weatherston.
The administrator of the group said he was continuing the group.
It was not "derailing the justice system" because jurors should not be reading the comments posted there.
"If they ask me to take it down then I'll have no choice, even though I don't believe it is prejudicing the case, or putting information which hasn't been already put into the public domain by the case out there.
"The group is not, and has no intention of, showing contempt for the court."
