Burglar caught selling loot on Facebook

A Dunedin burglar has been caught trying to sell stolen items on a Facebook trading site.

Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of Dunedin, said several items were stolen from a property in Anzac Ave at the weekend.

The occupants of the house were away and returned to find a laptop, binoculars and an iPod missing.

"The victim saw some of his items being sold on Facebook and has notified the police," Snr Sgt Butterfield said.

As a result, a male was arrested on Monday in relation to the burglary.

He was due to appear in the Dunedin District Court later this week.

Snr Sgt Butterfield warned people to be wary of unregulated online trading sites such as Facebook.

"Unregulated trading sites can be an outlet for stolen items," he said.
