A man has admitted three counts of committing incest in Dunedin.
The Christchurch man, aged in his 50s, appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to the rarely laid charges.
According to court documents, the sexual acts, which included intercourse, took place in January 2021.
The defendant was bailed and granted interim name suppression by Judge Smith, which would continue until his sentencing next year.
Incest carries a maximum prison term of 10 years.
A Dunedin woman, in her 20s, also faces incest charges in relation to the alleged relationship and will appear in court this week.
The details of the case were not aired at yesterday’s hearing — as is ordinarily the case — because prosecution and defence counsel had yet to agree on a formal summary of facts.
