Police have filed the case of a trail bike stolen in a ram-raid at a Dunedin dealership earlier this year.

No arrests or charges have been made.

McIver and Veitch was targeted about 11.20pm on Sunday, March 31, when a red van smashed through the sliding doors of the Crawford St shop, damaging several motorcycles.

The burglars removed two trail bikes, leaving one on the forecourt but managing to bundle a new KTM 350 EXC-F into the van.

They escaped before police arrived.

The red van - without the $16,500 motorcycle - was found later that night at the Unity Park lookout in Mornington.

Jason Veitch, who runs the family business with brother Dean, said at the time the motorcycle could not have been started, because it was "locked" to the dealership.

"Should any new information or lines of inquiry come forward this will be assessed at the time and ... appropriate action taken," a police spokeswoman said.

Elsewhere, thieves continue to target Dunedin tradesmen for their tools.

Power tools and other items were taken from a Toyota Hiace after a door was forced open in Waikari on Tuesday night.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said it appeared the suburb was being targeted by thieves after another report of a break-in on Sunday night in which tools were taken.

There has been a spate of tools thefts recently including $10,000 worth of tools stolen from two properties in Mosgiel at the weekend.

Last week, tools worth $2100 were stolen from a truck parked in North East Valley.
