Yesterday Dunedin police issued an appeal for anyone who witnessed a crash at the intersection of lower Stuart and Cumberland Sts about 3.45pm on Saturday to come forward.
Two vehicles - a dark blue Toyota Corolla and a silver BMW - were involved in the crash, which resulted in the Toyota hitting a traffic light. When asked if the silver BMW was involved in the motorcade for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge the following day, police referred questions to Internal Affairs.
In a statement, an Internal Affairs spokeswoman confirmed the Dunedin-based Crown limousine was involved in the incident.
''The vehicle was doing reconnaissance for the visit.''
She confirmed the vehicle, being driven by an Internal Affairs employee, was not damaged.
The incident did not affect preparations for the Sunday events in Dunedin.
The Royal couple travelled in a motorcade from Dunedin International Airport to St Paul's Cathedral, before leaving for Forsyth Barr Stadium and then returning to the airport in the early afternoon.
The motorcade included several chauffeured BMWs and a police escort.
Police said no-one was hurt in the incident, which they were investigating.
Anyone with information about it was asked to contact Constable Josef Zetko on (03) 471-4800 at the Dunedin Central Police Station.
