The Chamber of Commerce and Dunedin City Council say they will work together to overcome transportation and communication issues during times of adverse weather.
The chamber had criticised the council in its July newsletter for its response to last month's snowfall, which it said greatly affected businesses because roads remained closed longer than expected.
At a meeting on Tuesday night, the two organisations were told the contractor fulfilled its duties on the day, which the chamber accepted.
However, in a joint statement released yesterday, both agreed further discussion was required over the possibility of increasing levels of service.
Extra cost to ratepayers and benefits of any additional services would be evaluated.
It was also suggested the chamber invite members to implement snow policies to manage staff.
The council, whose primary concern was the safety of road-users, offered to co-ordinate information about conditions on a selection of city roads via its website, a move welcomed by the chamber.
Road closures and a map of priority routes serviced by contractors could be identified.
