Bus stop shelter raised with DCC

A Dunedin resident pushing for better facilities for inter-city bus passengers has taken her case to the Dunedin City Council.

Anne Marie Parsons, speaking at yesterday's DCC public forum, told councillors she wanted to see more shelter for bus passengers travelling to and from Dunedin.

She has been lobbying for new shelters for buses stopping in Moray Pl, around the corner from the Great King St bus hub, which is used by companies Intercity and Atomic.

Passengers have to stand or sit on the ground to wait, blocking the footpath, and they are exposed to the elements because there is no seating or shelter at the stop.

The Otago Regional Council said in July it wanted to provide a solution ''as soon as it can'', and earlier this month confirmed shelter and seating would be installed within weeks.

Yesterday, Ms Parsons told councillors she remained concerned any new shelter would be too small for the 20-plus passengers who could wait there.

As an alternative, she suggested shifting inter-city services to drop-off and pick-up outside the Centre City New World, where there was already a large bus shelter that was now underutilised.

Council chief executive Sue Bidrose said the ORC was already working to address the issue as a priority.

The DCC would keep the pressure on, as part of the Connecting Dunedin group, but it was important not to try to fix ''somebody else's issue'', she said.

''They [ORC] are working on it,'' she said.

Bidroses why is it being addressed now? why was it not addressed during the design phase, why is it that people such as me and others who no longer live in Dunedin spotted this ages ago and it fell on deaf ears swept under the carpet. Why is such thinks like this always repeated over and over again, if you are mean to be a high flyer and of a high clabre why is it just being picked up now. Again you and Cull have no back bone and allow Dunedin. rate payers to be walked over and money wasted, I think you should consider your position as CEO. Anne Marie Parsons like others you are very wise, Cull nor Bidrose will never be that wise.
Didn't Bidrose not long get a pay rise?
