Some people in South Dunedin may think the city council has a chequered history when it comes to dealing with flooding issues, but the latest piece of paintwork could be part of the solution.

A series of chequer squares runs from Second Beach Rd to David St and along Forbury Rd.

The Otago Daily Times has asked the Dunedin City Council to confirm what the squares signify.

They appear to line up with the Forbury aqueduct, for which a significant boost in capacity is planned.
