Dropped wallet lures speeder into arms of police

Crime didn't pay for a Dunedin man who sparked a police pursuit last night only to return to look for his lost wallet.

A pursuit started after the speeding motorcyclist was spotted on the Ida Valley just after 9pm, but was abandoned shortly afterwards, Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said.

A search failed to find the motorcyclist.

"However the rider decided to return to the scene after losing his wallet in the pursuit.''

The 22-year-old had his motorcycle impounded.

He is expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court in the new year.
