Dunedin cruise ship passenger missing

When the cruise ship Celebrity Solstice left Port Chalmers about 7pm yesterday, it did so minus a male passenger.

Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd said police had been notified about the missing man, who had left items, including his passport, on board.

''We are hopeful he will make contact with us, or the boat ...

''The longer he doesn't make contact, the more the concern will grow.''

The vessel, which can carry 2850 passengers and 1500 crew, was due in Akaroa this morning.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
