Baseball bats and tyre irons were used during a road-rage incident in a Dunedin supermarket car park yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to the Pak'n Save car park in South Dunedin at 4.30pm following reports passengers from two cars were using weapons against each other.

One of the vehicles, a white Toyota sedan with a smashed windscreen, was stopped by police in King Edward St, while a blue Honda sedan was stopped in Cameron St.

Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said the clash was believed to have been sparked by a "parking incident".

No charges had been laid against the occupants of the two cars who ranged in age from their mid-20s to their 40s.

Police inquiries were continuing, he said.

Witnesses were urged to contact Constable Donna Luff on 471-4800.
