
It is the first time the Australasian Epidemiological Association's annual scientific meeting has been held in Dunedin and only the second time it has been held in New Zealand since 1992.
Organising committee convener Dr Patricia Priest said participants had enjoyed the compact layout of the city, which made walking easy.
They had also appreciated the city's attractions, with some visitors making sightseeing trips to the Otago Peninsula.
Research papers were given on a wide range of topics, including home injury hazards, the need for improved traffic injury statistics and occupational risk factors for lung cancer.
The three-day conference ended yesterday.
About 45 students from both sides of the Tasman had taken part, some of them taking the opportunity to give scientific papers in a supportive atmosphere.
Epidemiology is a branch of medicine that involves studying the causes, distribution and control of disease in populations.
