The sky glowed golden in the north, a rainbow stretched over Dunedin city to the south and it rained as the sun rose this morning.
The elements competed for ascendancy as Dunedin woke to be bathed in a golden glow of a spectacular sunrise before the rain set in.
However, that was not the end of the show as a rainbow added a different touch of colour to the morning sky.
