The Dunedin City Council yesterday published a schedule of infringement and towage fees, set by central government.
A statement from the council said it was the first update to New Zealand’s parking infringement fees since 2004.
The government’s changes applied a consumer price index adjustment, which increased parking infringement fees by about 70% in most cases.
However, the fee for parking in a mobility park without displaying a valid mobility permit increased more significantly, from $150 to $750.
"While the DCC is not responsible for setting these fees, we recognise the impact the increases could have on motorists who might be unaware of the changes", it said.
"We are working to communicate the new fee structure to the public, including through the use of temporary signage at mobility parking sites."
The new fees could be found on the council website, the statement said.
