Hosting the occasion was Fletcher Trust chairman Angus Fletcher, grandson of Sir James Fletcher who came to New Zealand in 1908.
Fletcher Trust owns the house in Portobello Rd, Broad Bay, which was built by Sir James and Albert Morris, and is the first of many buildings to be associated with the Fletcher name.
Sir James later founded the Fletcher Construction Company and became a prominent figure in the construction industry.
The house was built for local storekeeper and postmaster Hubert Green and his wife, Agnes, in 1909.
Yesterday, four generations of the Green family from Wellington were treated to a special visit.
The eldest was Thelma Vaggers (88), whose first husband, Colin Green (who died in 2001), was born in the house in 1912.
Then there was Mrs Vaggers' daughter, Barbara Smith (61), granddaughter Karina Smith (29), and her daughter, Amelie (3).
Completing the party were the father of Ms Smith jun, Bob Smith (61), and her partner, David Curtis (30).
The idea for the visit arose last year when Mr Smith, who has worked for Fletchers for many years as a builder and now a security guard on Wellington sites, and Karina were at a function celebrating the Fletchers centenary last year.
He mentioned the family connections to the property to Fletcher Building infrastructure chief executive Mark Binns, who arranged the visit for family members which included visits to other tourist attractions including the Albatross Colony and Glenfalloch Gardens.
For Mr Fletcher, the visit coincided with his trip to Dunedin to see his daughter, Jean, graduate this weekend from the University of Otago with a double degree: a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of laws.
Mrs Vaggers said her late husband, who had moved with the family to Dannevirke by the time he was high-school age, had clear memories of his time in the house and the work of his father there.
• Fletcher House is billed as New Zealand's only fully restored and furnished villa. At this time of the year it is only open at weekends and on public holidays between 11am and 4pm. This timetable runs until Boxing Day. From then until the end of Easter, it opens daily.
