For the past seven years, Mrs Chiles has co-ordinated the involvement of Dunedin ANZ branches in Daffodil Day - the Cancer Society's annual flagship event being held today.
Each year, the society releases a new fluffy bear with different colour fur, jacket and name to mark the day, and Mrs Chiles makes a point of collecting them.
Cancer had affected some of her colleagues and family - both of her parents, her husband and aunts and uncles had cancer; some had beaten it, others had not, she said.
''It's quite prevalent in our family; so it's a cause close to the heart.
''The Cancer Society does a fantastic job.''
The bear this year - Lucy - had been on sale at most ANZ branches since the start of the month.
The George St branch she managed sold about 200 of the $10 bears each year and the ANZ branch across the road sold about 100.
''People come in especially for the bears.''
All the money raised in Otago and Southland for Daffodil Day stayed in Otago and Southland, she said.
