The Dunedin retiree was appalled when he learned this week that several cherished pot plants had been taken from the front porch of the St Kilda woman’s home in Ascot St.
He rang Dunedin police to offer a couple of the planter boxes he makes as a hobby, complete with flowers, and Dunedin police were happy to connect him with the residents.
"I detest dishonesty, especially for us oldies," Mr Sandoe said.
The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, was overwhelmed with his generosity.
Snr Sgt Thomson said another St Kilda resident had now come forward to report pot plants stolen from baskets outside their Queens Dr home on Monday.
Mr Sandoe was also planning to give a planter box to the second theft victim.
