South Dunedin police hope the arrest of four youths last weekend will help stem a minor crime wave in the area over the past month.

The youths, aged 14, 15 and 16, were arrested on Sunday after "good police work", Senior Sergeant Phil McDouall said.

They faced 36 charges in total in relation to various burglaries, thefts from cars and property damage around the South Dunedin area in the past four weeks, including a series of thefts from cars parked at Forbury Raceway.

Two of the youths appeared in the Dunedin Youth Court on Monday and two will appear today.

All had been referred to Youth Aid for follow-up action, Snr Sgt McDouall said.

Two of the youths were brothers and all lived in the South Dunedin area.

Police were also talking to others in relation to the mini crime wave.
